It is mid-December and we are making a start on the Christmas goodies. Chocolate and cheese have been purchased and Christmas films are on rotation. We’re feeling very festive!
For some schools this week is the last week of term – you made it! We hope you have enjoyed all the unique chaos that happens in schools during December. Now it is time to rest and relax (why not take a look at our blog post on this very topic – Looking after your well-being in the holidays).
For those of you who break up next week, we are sending you our strongest wishes for a peaceful and calm final few days. Keep it up and remember how great you’ll feel on the 2nd January when all other schools are already back to it!
It is time to announce our 3rd choice for the Christmas Book Advent. Drum roll please…
The Polar Express by Chris Vans Allsburg
This timeless classic speaks to us all; children who have a sense of awe and wonder, and the grown ups who wish they still did. It is a beautiful tale of a young boy who travels on a mysterious train to the North Pole, where he must decide if seeing really is believing or if some things require a bit of faith.
We love the beautiful illustrations that evoke a sense of warmth and joy. The snow covered forests, dark tunnels and sprawling North Pole city scenes have a real depth to them that draws in the reader. Reading the text, we can’t help but be transported on to the train; drinking hot chocolate and dreaming about what awaits at the end of the line.
Read this with your class at the end of a busy day, with the lights turned off and the Christmas decorations sparkling and you are bound to have a captivated audience hanging on every word.
