Olivia, our founder, trained to teach with TeachFirst. Starting as a secondary English teacher with a passion for wellbeing, Olivia also worked in primary schools as Wellbeing Lead. When she set up The Story Project, she was able to support other TeachFirst members through their summer project opportunities.

The TeachFirst Summer Projects are a great way to gain extra experience as a teacher, try out other career paths and spend time honing skills to support you back in the classroom.

This month, we are welcoming two TeachFirst Ambassadors to our staff team for a few weeks. They’ll be getting to know how a social enterprise works, working on exciting projects with us and joining in with daily life at The Story Project.

Here is a little bit more about Maisie, our first new colleague…

A new step in my teaching journey

Hello from me! I’d like to take the opportunity to introduce myself to anyone enjoying The Story Project’s blogs this month. My name is Maisie and I’ve just finished my ECT years and graduated from the Teach First programme last year.

I started my teaching journey with TeachFirst in a beautifully diverse and vibrant primary school in inner city Sheffield, after two years there, I then moved across the hills of The Peak District to a school in central Manchester. This summer, I’ve had the privilege of working with the brilliant Story project Team through the Teach First Summer Internship scheme.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been involved in creating some new blogs for the project (which will be hopefully useful as we roll into Autumn term), reviewing feedback on recent units, and seeing first-hand, the fantastic work happening behind the scenes on the project! It’s been a really interesting experience for me to see what professional life looks like outside the classroom and also to understand better how organisations like The Story Project cab support educators with the curriculum.

I hope that everyone is enjoying a well-earned summer break and do look out for some of the articles I’ve worked on on the blog in the coming weeks!
