We are very excited to announce a special partnership with Just Finance Foundation (the organisation behind school programme, ‘LifeSavers’) on a resource for Talk Money Week.

Talk Money Week is a great opportunity to open up discussions about economics and finance. Alongside JFF, we wanted to explore the themes of wellbeing and money; to find out how they are linked and how we can support children to understand this.

For primary children, having an understanding of basic money concepts such as saving, value and frugality is really important. From a wellbeing perspective, this helps children to differentiate between ‘wants’ and ‘needs’, deepening their understand of what things bring them happiness and what they need to live a healthy and safe life.

Our chosen book ‘The Dress in the Window’ (by Robert Tregoning and Pippa Curnick) is the perfect story to accompany this discussion. It champions second-hand shopping, saving, generosity, kindness, support and community. We love the relationship between the main character and his mum; how they look after each other and show love. We also really enjoy the beautiful illustrations which give a nod to diverse families.

Our free lesson plans use the story to explore the following objectives:

I can tell you how to save for something I would like to buy, including alternative ways to get something we want.

I can tell you how I show respect to other people’s interests

These objectives help children to understand the importance of saving and the value of items we want to buy, as well as the reasons why it is important to support each other’s interests. Our unique S.T.O.R.Y structure to lessons, ensure learning is engaging and easy to implement.
