As July approaches and Year 6 children around the country prepare to leave the comfort blanket of primary, we are thinking about ways we can support them.
It can be such an exciting time; the moment where children leave the training wheels behind and step boldly into the next chapter. They will start new lessons, wear a new uniform and enjoy a little more independence.
With this big leap, comes new challenges – many children will be making their own way to school for the first time. They may have to decipher new friendship groups, find their way around large new buildings and learn countless new names.
So, as the final weeks of Year 6 slip away, why not share some of these fantastic titles with your class…

The Crossover by Kwame Alexander
An original and clever story that tackles sibling rivalries and sport. Told through a variety of poetic styles and with brilliant illustrations too, it is bound to be a hit with your class.
You Can Do It by Marcus Rashford
A powerful book from the inspiring footballer, Marcus Rashford. This will help your class find their voice and realise their potential.
The Amazing Edie Eckhart: The Amazing Edie Eckhart:by Rosie Jones and Natalie Smillie
An uplifting story about a young girl separated from her best friend when they are put in different classes at secondary school. A common worry for lots of children, this story will show them that new friendships are out there too!
